Fire Chiefs’ Association of British Columbia

c/o Len Garis

Fire Chief

8767 – 132nd Street

Surrey BC V3W 4P1

Dear Chief Garis:

On behalf of the staff of the Office of the Fire Commissioner and everyone within the Emergency Management BC family, I wish to express heartfelt sympathy concerning the loss of Captain Daniel Botkin of the Enderby Fire Department.

I appreciate how difficult it is to say goodbye to one of our own. The death of a colleague is always difficult, but all the more so in the fire service family. Working in high risk situations creates an exceptionally close bond and I know that all members of the fire service feel the loss when a firefighter dies so tragically in the line of duty.

It is important for all of us to be comforted that Daniel’s obvious passion and commitment to his fire department need not be extinguished with his passing. Everyone in the fire service can be enriched by the memory of this man as we seek to exemplify that same passion for service.

I thank those of you who have shown your respect for Captain Botkin through your messages to his family, department and community, your attendance at his memorial service, by lowering your flags at your fire stations or by simply taking a moment to reflect on the loss of a fellow firefighter.

My deepest sympathy goes Daniel’s wife Miranda and the members of Daniel’s family and to the members of the Enderby Fire Department.

Sincerely,

Rebecca F. Denlinger

Assistant Deputy Minister

Fire and Emergency Management Commissioner
